Moore Buddies is a private, non-profit agency dedicated to
the youth in Moore County who are either entering the
Juvenile Justice System due to delinquent behavior or who
are at risk of not reaching their full potential due to a variety
of factors.  Youth who need a positive adult role model, close
monitoring of school, home, and community behavior, as well
as opportunities to learn social, recreational, vocational and
educational skills can benefit from our agency.  Youth are
referred to Moore Buddies by the Juvenile Justice system,
Moore County schools, Department of Social Services,
parents and youth themselves.

Youth development experts now agree that mentoring is a
critical element in any child's social, emotional and cognitive
development.  It builds a sense of industry and competency,
boosts academic performance and broadens horizons.
Without doubt, young people who have the benefit of caring
adult mentors navigate the path to adulthood more
successfully.
What is Moore Buddies?
Why Mentoring Matters
In Honor of Hugh Joyce’s
dedication and commitment to
the cause of mentoring and
volunteerism, the Hugh Joyce
Award is given to a volunteer that
goes “above and beyond.”  While
all of our mentors meet this
definition, this year’s recipient
was Carol Lamphier for her
tireless effort and support of her
mentee’s educational endeavors.
Vicki and Kasey spending quality
time together at Reservoir Park in
Southern Pines.
Spending at least 2 hours a week together,
a mentor and mentee are able to establish
a consistant, dependable relationship.
Having a supportive and attentive mentor
makes our kids smile!!  And we like that!
Above:  Our phenomenal group of
women who volunteered to help Moore
Buddies with our United Way Day of
Caring Scrapbooking Event!  The 16
"Life Books" that were made that day
went straight to 16 children who are in
Moore County's foster care system.
Now as a service project for our
program, the "Life Books
" will hopefully
keep these children connected with
and remembering their life journey.

For “Make A Difference Day”, we held a
mock election at the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Hwy 15-501
on Saturday October 18.
Larry Caddell volunteered his time to
represent the Republican ticket and Tessie
Taylor volunteered to represent the
Democratic party.  Attorney Deonte Thomas
spoke to the youth about the history of our
right to vote and about The Constitution.
Afterwards, everyone enjoyed pizza and ice
cream sundaes.
